Challenge #1 : Leytron Rugby Club in the spotlight!
The Swiss Rugby Federation is pleased to announce the winner of the FSR Challenge#1 competition: initiation and discovery.
RC Leytron distinguished itself by bringing together 17 unlicensed participants aged 16 and over for its introductory session on 8 September, a record that testifies to its dynamism and commitment to the development of women's rugby in Switzerland, particularly in the Valais.
This remarkable performance illustrates the positive impact of local initiatives and the growing enthusiasm for women's rugby. The FSR warmly congratulates RC Leytron on this success and thanks all the clubs that took part in this first challenge. More than 80 women discovered rugby during this challenge!
Congratulations to RC Leytron!
Let's work together to grow rugby.
A word from Nicolas Ziegelmeyer, organiser of the RC Leytron initiation:
"First of all, I think the key word was “on board”.
All I had to do was send two or three messages to the mothers of junior players who also wanted to understand what this sport their children were playing was all about.
From there, a few word-of-mouth recommendations and a couple of friends got on board. Then I contacted a couple of friends who I knew were a bit daredevil, and boom! They got a couple of friends on board too.
Then I was lucky enough to be able to count on Aurélie Avanthay, a player for the Mermigans, who also brought along two or three players to introduce their sport, ‘women's rugby’, which is every bit as good as the men's game, and to get together afterwards for a wonderful rugby aperitif offered by our senior players, who also shared the aperitif and their experiences with the girls from our sport.
I myself had the honour of signing up my stepdaughter and coaching her for a few years before she moved to Monthey, which is great for her future with the Mermigans.
In any case, I was delighted to do everything I could to create this introductory session to women's rugby, and a mini project is underway with Aurélie and her team to expand the boundaries of women's rugby in Valais beyond Monthey in order to strengthen this wonderful Mermigans team."
